Browsing through my library's Algebra offerings, this was the only one I found that taught the lessons rather than just outlining and offering a few solved problems. (Schaum's: I'm looking at you.) Marshall did a great job of explaining the madness behind the methods. He offered real, if ridiculous, situations where one might want to use algebra. Marshall's explanations were also very thorough and that's something I've found missing in many math texts. My only complaint is that the book ended ear Browsing through my library's Algebra offerings, this was the only one I found that taught the lessons rather than just outlining and offering a few solved problems. I would have liked Marshall to continue covering topics.

I read most of this book to refresh my memory of Algebra. My shameful admission is that I suck at Math. Although I liked this book's chatty style and friendly style it felt too bogged down in prose and not enough problems. Having said that, the book has a great section on solving quadratic equations that I found very useful. I read most of this book to refresh my memory of Algebra. Fun way to review Algebra, in such a way that the real-world applications help it stick. Feel better prepared for the higher math I'm teaching myself now. Looks like a good counterpart to Danica McKellar's excellent, but admittedly girl-oriented, algebra help books. Looks like a good counterpart to Danica McKellar's excellent, but admittedly girl-oriented, algebra help books.

Did you forget your Algebra, really, you didn't use it every day, so maybe you forgot order of operations, or never were good at factoring, and just need a review, CHOOSE THIS BOOK.
