Probably better titled as "Ten Mostly New York-centric Moments that Shook the American Sports World" but enjoyable nonetheless. Isaacs was present for some of the most remarkable games and moments of the last 75 years of American sporting events as a New York-based reporter. The events, therefore, are mostly New York (the Knicks, Met, Jets and the Belmont Stakes all figgure into the narrative), but he includes some truly national as well as international events as well. More of a sports journalist's memoir of his ten biggest stories rather than the ten greatest moments in sorts history, but that's OK because he covered so many great stories. Besides the obvious most important one - the Munich Olympics masachre - my favorites were Secretariat winning the Belmont Stakes and Harvard "defeating" Yale 29 - 29. His insight and detail to these stories were extraordinary as was his recall of the back stories involved in the Dodgers-Giants playoff game of 1951. As a Jackie Robinson fan, I found it fascinating to learn that he wasn't as quiet and humble on the field as he was off.

A fun quick read recapping the BIG sports events of the last 50 years - think the first Super Bowl, Secretariat, Amazin Mets, Ali-Frazier, Munich Olympics. If you're a middle-aged sports guy, there will be no real surprises here - you'll be familiar with each event, but I found it a very readable 'review' of these titanic events. Should be titled 10 moments that shook New York as this is mostly about one New York writer bragging about all of the sports events he attended. Does he really believe that the top ten sports events of the last century each took place in New York!!!

OK writing, questionable list, far too much personal reflection as opposed to story telling and reporting.
