God, it felt like I was reading that forever. I should have flounced the last two books but I wanted to see how the mystery elements would be resolved. (Lamely, if you're asking.) It's a good thing Nora Roberts's stories have improved immensely in the last 20-30 years. This Magic Moment: I generally liked the characters in this book. Pierce did a couple of things that had me side-eyeing him but he wasn't bad. Ryan's name continually confused me. I just couldn't get used to it being a female name. I liked that there were points where they could have had typical misunderstandings that would cause their separation but instead they talked about it (though Ryan was being somewhat unreasonable). The issue that did drive them apart in the end was ridiculous. Again, I think Ryan wasn't using her head and Pierce wasn't being clear. But the story did have some seriously romantic scenes that I really liked. 3 stars Search for Love: This story was pretty much nonsensical. The entire premise was strange. But I could have been okay with that if it weren't for the "Hero" Christophe. I guess he wanted to deny his feelings for the Heroine, Serenity, so he basically treated her with nothing but anger and violence. She wasn't passive and would yell right back at him and everytime she did he would grab her and kiss her violently. The word "bruising" was used everytime. It was obvious he was using violent kissing as a substitute for actually hitting her into submission, but then he'd go so far as to confirm that in words after he was done. Of course, his "bruising" kisses zap Serenity of all sense and she doesn't consider them what they actually are nor does she focus on his words afterward. It seriously goes in this vein throughout the entire book until suddenly out of nowhere she's in love with him. What in the bloody hell? At one point they're about to have sex, and he is being kind of violent with it and she tells him she's scared because she's a virgin. He, of course, gets pissed at her. Then at the end he tells her he's "taking what no man's ever had before" throws her on the ground kissing her and groping her and continues even though she's struggling against him but then when she decides that she actually likes it and is ready and capitulates he stops and rolls off and says he realizes he's 'hurt her again and he just can't control his baser instincts with her.' And she's like, 'that's cool.' I almost threw the fucking book against the wall. At that point after he finally admits he loves her he's all sweet and tender and loving. So, basically he was violent toward this girl falling just short of actually hitting her and raping her, because he loved her from the moment he set eyes on her but didn't want to admit it? Yeah, okay. Oh, and he really needed to stop reminding everyone that they're cousins. It's through marriage, they're not close to being blood relations so it wasn't squicky but the calling her cousin wasn't helpful. Sticking around for the resolution of the promised but often-ignored mystery wasn't worth it. It was incredibly contrived. 1 star The Right Path: This story was much more compelling, so was the setting. I didn't regret sticking around to find out the end of the mystery as much. Same problems with the characters though. Nicolas didn't want to fall for Morgan so he was a jerk to her. It could have come back from their first meeting due to the extenuating circumstances, but he just continued with the behavior even though he'd then lament how much of a dick he is to her and not wanting to hurt her. Then, after she's gotten shit-faced drunk and his cousin (who she was out with at the time) made a point of taking her home as to not take advantage of her, Nick, of course sleeps with her. And is violent about it since he's pissed he's losing control. Morgan, of course, calls it all her fault and is upset when he seems to regret it. He spends an entire long paragraph going on about how he took advantage of her. OH, SO YOU KNEW IT WAS WRONG. Jesus. They have a back and forth I want to like but she acts like a ditz and he's too demanding. She falls in love in like three days and her other suitor who is super sweet and attractive is just not enough. Then suddenly near the end she decides she wants to stand up for herself at all the wrong times about the the wrong things. When she does the first time he says, 'if I had the time I would beat you, but since I don't...' and he kisses her. You have got to be kidding me. But he gives into her. She then swan dives into Too Stupid To Live. I was hoping she'd die due to her stupidity in the end. Ugh. 1.5 stars ***** I just want to add that I know I sure want a man who threatens to beat me anytime I don't do as he wants me to do. I'd chalk it up to the fact that all of these were published originally in the early 80s but since it's 2012 and the most passed on, talked about "book" out there right now heavily features a man threatening to beat his girlfriend anytime she disobeys him it is unfortunately not an 80s thing. It's a frighteningly idiotic notion of romance thing. And it is disgusting.

Reprints of books from the 80s are often hit-or-miss propositions. This one was mostly a miss. The first of the 3 was odd but amusing. This book really wasn't some of her best work. I don't enjoy having three stories in one book, because it all seems rushed. I definitely prefer Nora Roberts' more recent stuff. Also, why can't the characters admit they are attracted to one another. They don't have to do anything about it, but they keep finding excuses. Pierce and Ryan annoyed me (even though Ryan is one of my favourite girl's names), but I loved Link and Bess. In fact, I wish the story had been about them. Search For Love 1 Star After reading this novella, I'm left with fonder memories of the first because this one was terrible. Serenity was weak and silly, even though she claims to be strong and have pride. The story is much too idyllic, everything is perfect and pretty and french. It's not real. And there were way too many adjectives and adverbs and descriptions. And it's the only story of hers that every single character annoyed me and I found it ridiculous how fast they fell in "love," without knowing each other at all. In fact, they hated each other. And for all the claims she makes that her father would never be a thief, she spends no time searching for the truth. And what's the big deal if her father is a thief, she finds it romantic and wonderful that her ancestor was a pirate. And she totally and completely forgets about Tony, even though they were in some sort of relationship. I read it really fast and I didn't pay much attention, just to get to the next story. The Right Path 3 Stars This one was probably my favorite out of the book. Nicholas was sexy and dangerous and hot, just like the story. I loved the mystery part, it was unlike any other Nora Roberts I've read. And although I initially liked Morgan, in the end I found her exceptionally dumb and unlikable.

I don't usually read romance but I got this from a donate pile from my parents and I just finished the book I brought, sooo... yeah. I do not want to read a romance after this one. The lack of the male characters respecting the female character was astounding. The first wasn't too bad but the other two were jerks and in some instances, what they did was borderline rape. Lack of consent was a major issue and how people find domineering, violent men romantic is beyond me. This was rather lame, assault romance with big, tough, grabby men, and svelte beauties who must be carried through life's difficulties. These stories should have been left in the vault and never reissued, they are most definitely dated and will turn the casual reader off from picking up a romance book every again. Two stars for having a magician as the love interest in the first story, but no stars for the angry, abusive men in the other two. Too many cringeworthy moments, for sure.

This Magic Moment - this story about a magician and the woman producing his TV special is probably the least creepy of the set. The hero isn’t a total horrible jerk and there are several times when he is sweet and kind and actually considers the viewpoint of the heroine. Search for Love - Did not like this story about a woman who travels to France to meet her estranged grandmother. I hate stories where the hero is super grabby without actually communicating with the heroine in any way. It’s very gross. The heroine also doesn’t really stand up for herself. There is supposedly a “mystery” in that Serenity is trying to find out the truth about a missing painting, but she doesn’t actually put any effort into that search. Not a fan. The Right Path - this book is disappointing because the heroine had potential - she is a successful translator who has a thriving career - yet on her vacation to the Greek island of Lesbos she has apparently left her intelligence and personality behind. Instead, she enjoys being grabbed and kissed by a random man who holds a knife to her and breaks into her room whenever he feels like it. I was somewhat interested to find out who the smugglers were in the mystery portion of this story. But overall this story just didn’t appeal to me.

This is the first book I have ever DNF. I just couldn't get attached to any of the character or find interest in the stories. This book was broken up into three small stories. The novel just wasn't my cup of tea.

For those who like Nora Roberts' books filled with romance and mystery, this book is a treasure trove since it contains three full length novels. Romance and suspense kept me turning the pages. All so different, yet so good, the novels kept me guessing. The only thing I skipped while reading were the excessive sex scenes. This book consisted of three of Nora Roberts books - This Magic Moment, Search for Love and The Right Path. I read the first two. The last one I only got a little way through and I finally I said that's enough. I don't need a blow by blow of the sexual acts and the stories weren't that interesting. I won't read any by this author. This book consisted of three of Nora Roberts books - This Magic Moment, Search for Love and The Right Path. I read the first two. From the start, the chemistry between them is riveting, but neither is willing to trust very easily. And as much as Ryan is willing to put her heart on the line, she’s not sure she can put up with the risks that Pierce takes and that risk of losing him. This was a bit too short to be really developed. Pierce felt too mysterious and given how little he actually told Ryan about himself, it was difficult to buy into a nice, trusting relationship. Especially when it came to the end and their little disagreement. Pierce’s reasons probably would have been a lot stronger if he’d made it clear to Ryan (and teh reader) why he HAD to take the risks he did. As it was, I couldn’t figure why he stuck to his guns like that, especially in the face of losing the woman he loved. Still, I liked the characters and the magic. Search for Love - 1 / 5 - Serenity Smith travels to Brittany to visit her newly discovered grandmother, the Comtesse de Kergallen. There, she meets her stuffy and conceited cousin by marriage, Christophe. Both of them seem to harbor a lot of anger toward her and blame her recently deceased father for the disappearance of a priceless painting. Serenity decides to stick around in order to locate the painting, but finds herself falling for Christophe. But for the love of all that is holy, I cannot fathom why. A bunch of asshole, hostile behavior and two “punishing” kisses and Serenity is lamenting the fact that she’s in love with Christophe. We never get Christophe’s POV, but apparently he’s loved her from the start...but decided to treat her like shit. RME. Truly, the man is the master of the “attack kiss,” in which he suddenly crushes his lips to hers in anger and she’s supposed to enjoy it and the fingers digging into her arms… It’s as though every sexual encounter (and none of them involve actual sex) were a battle and they sound particularly violent. And even worse is he keeps blaming her for his doing it...because she provokes him. RME again! Some of the early Nora stories just don’t do it for me. This is one. The Right Path - 2.5 / 5 - More like a 2.5. Morgan James is a U.N. interpreter on vacation in Greece. On the beach one night, she is suddenly pulled aside and held at knifepoint. She later learns that man is her hosts' neighbor, Nicholas Greogoras. She suspects he is a smuggler, but whether or not she's right, she knows he's dangerous. He recognizes her for the distraction that she is, but he cannot help himself. He doesn't want to pull her into his dangerous world and he knows she's too good for him, but he cannot seem to stay away. For a woman as self-confident and intelligent as Morgan must be, for some reason she falls in love with a controlling and borderline abusive guy. Nicholas tends to manhandle and attack kiss. He has no idea what boundaries are. Like, not kissing a woman you've just met. Or not grabbing her repeatedly and shaking her as though she's a ragdoll. Or not making out with her while she's still sleeping and she still doesn't really know you and you haven't gotten consent. Or having sex with a woman who is too drunk to know better...when they're stumbling and slurring, you don't have sex with them. It is especially difficult to handle when the woman has made it clear that she doesn't want him to make love to her. And this is one thing I did like about the heroine, when he claims she's lying because her body responds and tells him the truth. She makes it clear that her body has nothing to do with it, she still doesn't want him to make love to her. (And this has always been my issue with forced seduction scenes - the hero claims she wants it because her body says yes, but what really matters is the mind.) So I do appreciate that the heroine was not a doormat in that respect. On the other hand, she was a bit TSTL. Seriously, what person in their right mind would go rushing out into gunfire to find a man who is trained for it? Or the woman who insists on following the hero into danger to face a professional smuggler when she has no way to defend herself? The suspense plot was pretty decent. The author threw the red herrings out there and really gave us evidence against the identity of the villain, but that was proven false and so I didn't guess who it was. The knife fight at the end was a bit ridiculous and overly macho. This wasn't a bad story, but the character type (macho manhandling hero and TSTL woman) aren't really my type. And the love scenes were fade-to-black. There were actually a couple that had me questioning if they'd had sex in the first place.

Comtesse de Kergallen accuses her father of crime and in this tale, Serenity sets out to prove her wrong. At the same time, she grows fond of Christophe, Comtesse de Kergallen's grandson. "'Madame, if it is your wish that I remain here for a time, we must ocme to an understanding. If we cannot, I will have no choice but to leave.' She kept her voice firm and controlled and astringently polite, but the eyes betrayed the struggle with temper. 'I loved my father very much, as I did my mother. I will not tolerate the tone you use when you speak of him.'" Lastly, The Right Path

(Come on, he's a smuggler who also has a legit business, not a soldier or police officer!) That shit is fucked up. He also is pretty stalkery/assaulty. But hey, I appreciate that Roberts didn't totally phone it in and made some attempt to plant suspicion about who the bad guy was. Of course it's Roberts so it's still pretty obvious.

J.D. Robb is Nora Roberts' pseudonym for the "____ in Death" series, one of my favorite book series. I thought I'd check out some of her earlier work, writting under her own name. I picked up this book because it contained three short novels, so I thought it would be the quickest read. In hindsight, this probably wasn't the best idea, since the short novels in the "_____ in Death" series are radically different from the full length novels. In any case, I decided that I don't enjoy the romance genre. These stories all have the same plot: Woman meets man. Woman doesn't like man. Man kisses woman. Woman sleeps with man. The end. Nora Roberts has a wonderful skill for describing a scene, and she places the characters in beautiful locations. Unfortunately these books are mindless. I think I use more brainpower watching TV...

It's what all Nora Roberts love stories are good but forgettable. I love her writing and it gives me the escape that I need. Will I remember this book in a few years? Probably not. So here's the rundown for my future benefit: This magic moment - hard headed woman with daddy issues falls for enigmatic magician with a death wish. All works out in the end. Search for Love - parents die young woman finds out about mysterious past meets love of life in process. Grandma is a great character. Theme for all three and most romances I have read - only rich people have love lives this exciting. So give it up girls and settle for mediocrity.

I am so happy to finally have had the time recently to read this book. I have had it for quite a few years. It was copyrighted in 2003. Mysterious is a collection of previously written and published novels by Nora Roberts. There are 3 books in this collection, each different from each other. Many writers and publishing companies re-release previously published books and this is like that. I enjoyed all three of the stories. The characters are interesting, the plot interesting, and the sets certainly interesting. A reader will not finish this book in one day. I have read many Nora Roberts books, enjoyed them all, and this one was enjoyed, also. The reader certainly gets his/her money’s worth, with 3 books in one. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys Nora Roberts books. She was, even at this previous date, a great mystery/romance writer, and still is today.

This is the fifth time I have read the first book in the pack (This Magic Moment) and the last one(The Right Path) I never really cared for the 2nd book, the first one is okay. I love the way she fell in love with before she kneew about his past and still acceted him as he was for who he was after she knew. Thinking that he was a criminmal then turning out he was trying to protect the legal system against the smuggling. Over all I love this book and will read it again for sure.

Reprints of three earlier books, which I was delighted to have, two are set in foreign climes, one in France and one in Greece, the other here in America. I wasn't thrilled with any of them, but mostly because they reflected the times they were written in when women were looking for masterful men. Translated, this means men who don't listen to what women are telling them but go ahead with what they themselves want. In this day and age, this attitude is a little disturbing so I rated the books tw Reprints of three earlier books, which I was delighted to have, two are set in foreign climes, one in France and one in Greece, the other here in America. On the other hand, the writing is typical Nora Roberts in that it is well done, visually provocative, and flows easily so that there is never a need to put the books down until they are finished. They may not be my favorites, but they are very re-readable.

Mysterious includes 3 novels- 'This Magic Moment', 'Search for Love', and 'The Right Path'. Normally a historical romance fan, I was not sure about stories of romantic suspense. I am still first and foremost a fan of historicl romances; but look forward to reading more of Robert's romantic suspense novels.

This book is full of 3 really enjoyable stories...I think I liked the first one best "This Magic Moment" about Pierce and illusionist and Ryan an agent working for her father and the battle of wills that ensues...I loved both characters "Search for Love" shows the battle between kissing cousins...although not true family members these two start out hating each other and later find out that perhaps they understand each other better than they realize. Three stories in typical Nora Roberts fashion. In each story, girl meets mysterious guy, falls in love within a day or two and fights feelings while whining about it but not confiding in friends. Each girl allows the leading man to kiss them, etc., losing all sense of control and melting into their arms. It is kind of annoying that these otherwise rational, intelligent women cannot keep control of themselves.
