    A useful book for those who've experienced panic or anxiety attacks. It is clearly structured and reassuring in tone, setting out steps for self-help. Notably, the author has himself suffered from anxiety and in the final chapter explains his own experience. However, it is very much aimed at getting over the fear & panic long-term, rather than dealing with short-term symptoms. Indeed, Baker seems to take the view that short-term coping mechanisms impede overall recovery. A useful book for those who've experienced panic or anxiety attacks.     Erstmal vorweg: Ich bin selber betroffen, aber geheilt bin ich nach der Lektüre dieses Ratgebers leider nicht. Allerdings hat das Buch mir sehr dabei geholfen zu verstehen was überhaupt bei Panikattacken passiert und wieso sie auftreten. Gegen Ende des Buches gibt es eine Schritt-für-Schritt Anleitung sich selbst zu therapieren. Leider hat diese bei mir nicht funktioniert, hauptsächlich aber deswegen weil ich sie nicht durchgehalten habe. Für alle, die an Panikattacken leiden, aber bevor sie eine Erstmal vorweg: Ich bin selber betroffen, aber geheilt bin ich nach der Lektüre dieses Ratgebers leider nicht. Für alle, die an Panikattacken leiden, aber bevor sie eine Therapie antreten, noch einmal etwas selbst probieren wollen, kann ich das Buch empfehlen. Ich bin der festen Überzeugung dass es einigen helfen kann, insofern man es schafft die Tipps und Tricks einzuhalten.

    A very basic guide to panic attacks and to the fear that lies behind them. It has been helpful in explaining, with case studies, the root causes and with solutions. The author emphasises that panic attacks are not usually fatal, may not have to be treated with chemicals and can be controlled with instruction. This book is useful to people who in some way find themselves involved in social care. As well, of course, to sufferers of panics themselves.

    Tuhle knížku jsem překládala, takže se dá říct, že jsem ji četla zhruba třikrát nebo čtyřikrát. Sama nemám s panickou úzkostnou poruchou zkušenosti, ale zdálo se mi, že pan Baker ví, o čem mluví a že by mohla být užitečná - jako příručka, nebo jako zdroj informací pro zvídavé...
