I LOVED this couple! Maybe it's because there was so much passion, or chemistry, but they really did it for me. I want to see more of them, see where their journey takes them and what other kinds of hot situations they can get into. For me when an erotica novel is extremely well written and can tell a great story around the sex, that's when I know the author is someone I'll be begging to read more of. And Ms. Howell seems to be that person for me, she's sharp, witty and can write one hell of a story! 5/5

I am the daughter of a Vietnam Veteran, my grandmother lost a brother in WWI, and my grandfather's brother fought in WWII. I know some of what it means to sacrifice for your country, but only in the vain of living with one who has served. The inspiration behind this story, though, initially came from hearing the struggle of getting the Pentagram as an accepted Wiccan religious symbol on veteran's gravestones. In my research, the story became more about the idea of freedom, and the sacrifices we make to get it, what we are willing to give up. This seemed a strange idea. I liked setting the story to begin on Memorial Day in a graveyard and end it in that same graveyard on the Fourth of July. Also, my witch lost her grandfather in a war, and my vampire was turned when he was dying on a battlefield. I know erotic romance and paranormal may be strange genres for a patriotic story, but, well, that's just me ;)

It goes against the grain of his existence to get to close to her, but he can't help it once she becomes hurt when he accidently makes himself visible to her. He's always loved her from a far, and now that he's no choice but to get close Alexander has to deal with the inner turmoil of loving her and wanting to kill her at the same time because of what he is. It doesn't help matters that as soon as Meranda awakens she's filled with questions, and gains a longing to be with him. She's felt him around her whole life, and everything just feels complete with him at her side. Alexander fights it and disappears for her own good, never really leaving he lurkes from a far only to meet a determined woman hell bent on spending eternity with him. A Strange Freedom: Blood and Fireworks compels you immediately with it's unique plot, intriguing characters, and sizzling erotic encounters. I enjoyed it very much, and look forward to reading more of Ms. Howells work.
