(Synopsis provided by Whiskey Creek press.com) This book started off running and it never stopped! I loved it! I found the book to highly original and a book where you sit down to read one chapter and 100 pages later, you’re still reading. It was one of the hardest books to put down, I have read this year. Like many others, I also loved the Nasharin race, the background of the wizards was also a very original concept. I think what I liked most about the book is the fact that I found all the situations and all the characters to be very believable. Baccaro has very strong dialog and I found the descriptions to be very well written. I really liked the character of Darshun don’t want to say too much there, or I’ll give the whole thing away! My only complaint is that I felt the book just ended. I understand that the author was asked to split the book up into installments and I don’t have an issue with that, I just hate having to wait to find out what happens next to my favorite characters. I think that fans of Terry Goodkind would find this to be enjoyable. Overall rating ***** 5 out of 5 stars Coverart: I really liked the cover art very creative and I think it draws the reader in. Obtained: I was sent an copy for review by Mr. Baccaro Thank you!

This is a great book and the first book in a series of five. The charactors are well developed and easy to relate to. I really enjoyed the storyline. I won the first four books of the series in a giveaway and can not wait to start the next book in the series. I highly recommend this book.

This is a trite story, covering old ground that’s been covered a thousand times before. A castle in the British isles, knights, armies, dead king, young, untried prince has to take over, we’ve all read things like this before, and the author doesn’t really do anything new with the genre. A mostly male-centric heroic fantasy that’s just utterly boring, and not worth reading. Some nice descriptions, but awkward phrasing. Don’t bother.

First Sentence: As a summer heat scorched the land, the stink of death could be sensed miles away. Prophecy of the Guardian starts off with the the people of Loreladia who are forced to leave their kingdom behind after they suffered a grievous lost during their last battle with the Cullach. One of the most fascinating things about this book, to me, would have to be the Nasharins and when they transformed (or used their unique abilities). I really liked how the three that were mentioned all had different abilities. The pacing of PotG was fairly quick, although there wer a few points when the story seemed to kind of lag. Like when Darshun's training was being covered, but other than that it a pretty quick read. My hope is that in the next book Darshun will have matured a little and that he won't be so easily deceived. Definitely looking forward to seeing where the story will go in the next book, especially since the ending of the first was very open ended. Darshun, I thought he was a pretty okay character. That is until he royally screwed up and let his hormones get in the way...okay so I'm pretty sure the girl is evil and maybe even seduced him, but gosh I just wanted to throttle him near the end of the book. So cross out his idiocy near the end of the book and he's actually a fairly interesting character, but I liked him best when he was a happy-go-luck kind of person. As for Mirabel I found him to be probably the most interesting out of the whole cast. Why, because he had more back story then some of the others, plus his personality was one that seemed to catch your attention more and pull you in. What I liked best about Prophecy of the Guardian were the monsters that the good guys were up against. I thought they were some of the most vile, loathsome creatures that I've read about in a while and the fact that they were absolutely ruthless was a bonus. This might seem like an odd thing for my favorite part of a book, but for me if the villain is weak or sub par it just will not hold my attention. While I really enjoyed reading Prophecy of the Guardian I have just one minor complaint. I felt that there was maybe just a bit too many things added to the mythos of the story, you had wizards who were fallen angels, elves, and horrible creatures all in one book. While it did make for interesting reading to see how everything all tied together, I felt that maybe there were just a few too many different beings in the book. Content (will contain spoilers/highlight to see): This book is relatively clean until the last chapter or two, when Darshun and girl (I forget her name) sleep together. Language, I don't recall any while reading it. Prophecy of the Guardian is also pretty violent at some points (beheading, loss of limbs, just general acts of violence that happen in fantasy books with war). Final Verdict: Prophecy of the Guardian Prophecy of the Guardian earns 4 out of 5 pineapples.

In addition, to finding the baby Mirabel discovers a crystal, a crystal that will play an important part in the War against the Dark. The forces of dark far overwhelmed the cities forces and they were slaughtered. The remaining few were sent back to escort the people to a new land where the young prince can go grow and rule the remainder of his people in peace. Two of the remaining warriors were Nasharins, an ancient elemental race that had thought to have been wiped out long ago. Mirabel was charged with delivering the news of his father's demise to the young prince and leading the way into the new lands. Along the way, Mirabel feels the overwhelming pull of another Narsharin. But it can't be!! Their numbers were so few and far between! Energy never lies and this particular sensation was incredibly strong, as from a powerful being. Mirabel finds Seth and explains the situation to him and Seth agrees to accompany him. They settle the people in a secure area and begin their journey to a place that is only a few hours away. Their arrival in town is swift and they observe the activities of the evil forces within the city. It looks as though they are preparing a ritual. Soon enough it begins. Mirabel is desperately searching for the life-force he felt the pull form but is coming up with nothing. At last the sacrifice is brought forth and laid upon the alter. Mirabel looks upon it in outraged shock. For there, nestled inside some rags lays an infant and the pull that he has been searching for. This story is about Darshaun (Dar), the infant that was rescued by Mirabel and Seth, and the coming of the guardian stated in the prophecy. Dar has many obstacles that he most overcome in order to grow into the man he is destined to be. Dar has many endearing qualities such as his openness to adventure, his innocence, and his care-free way of looking at life. He isn't your typical alpha testosterone bound hero, rushing into every skirmish to save the day. He is very emotional and easily expresses them for all to see. But will this boy be able to push aside his fears to become the man the world needs him to be? This was an excellent intro into Dar's world. There are a huge array of interesting creatures, my favorite being the Nasharins themselves, that are vividly captivating and creative. The author has definitely gained a fan through this book, for it was very well written. I enjoyed my dip into this world and am eagerly anticipating the next book! Great Read!!

They go to save that person and end up rescuing an infant that was going to be sacrificed to the Dark Lord. The Cullach have risen again and the five Wizard Crystals are starting to surface. The Second Great War is beginning and Darshun has learned that he is the guardian of the Wizard Crystals. Now Darshun must find it in himself to be the guardian that everyone expects of him even though he would have rather lived his own life without everyone telling him what to do. He will meet one of the last Wizards and help him find the fire Wizards Crystal, fight Cullach, and find his true self along the way. I loved this book. I couldn’t put it down. This is a well-crafted world with great description to both the land and characters. I wanted to cheer and beat Darshun at the same time as he is trying to figure out where he fits into the world while trying to figure out who he really is. I honestly can’t say that I find any faults with this story. I recommend this to anyone that likes the Fantasy/Science Fiction genera. You will not be disappointed. I received this for free from the author.

This is the first book of J.W. Baccaro’s Guardian series. It is as much a typical fantasy adventure as it is a not so typical fantasy adventure. As with all fantasy type stories, it comes with its own bit of mythos. Of course, you have your humans, elves, wizards and beastmen which is the typical part. The deviation for me occurs in the fact they mythos of the realm draws heavily from Judeo-Christian ideas. You have Abaddon, fallen angels and the like all interwoven to make a fascinating story. Your main character is a man by the name of Darshun. He is rescued as a baby by a man named Mirabel from a group of Cullach (one of the beastmen type races) who are trying to sacrifice him. Darshun comes to call Mirabel his father. Indeed, Mirabel does take Darshun under his wing and teaches Darshun about exactly who (and what) he is. He is one of the few remaining Nasharin’s (augmented humans). Darshun eventually learns of a prophecy which states he is to be the Guardian of the Realm. For me, this was a hit and miss type of story. In a lot of ways, it read like it could have been novelization of some of the early Final Fantasy video games. You have 4 elemental crystals of great power. There are wizards and demons either wanting to use them for evil or good. Real world mythologies intertwined with the fantasy aspect heightened that illusion. For me, this worked in the book's favor. The misses were things that just stuck out for me. There were small turn of phrases that were just a bit too “modern” for my taste mixed in. Then there was a scene of a few Cullach and dark elves basically getting stoned off of Debach. I suppose if I looked like a human boar then I would want to toke one too. Overall, the misses are minor. The characters grew on me and I want to continue to follow their adventures.

This is an excellent story! It's been a long time since I've read a fantasy like this one. I agree that it's fast-paced with lots of action, suspense, and even a bit of drama. The wizards spawning from the angelic race is a really neat concept too. The only fault I find in this story is the excessive amount of character names which don't really have a lot to do with the story other than a back history. Though this is sometimes common in the fantasy genre, but if one is not familiar with fantasy, they may feel these 'historical sections' read like history, requiring lots of remembering. Even so, the main circle of characters in this story, I think really makes up for that. They are awesome! I would highly recommend Prophecy of the Guardian. The book kicks butt! I loved it, especially the characters Nayland, Mirabel, Darshun, the klutzy-goofy King Loreus and the sexy Aurora (who I still don't trust all that much. She's too pushy. I know she's up to something). I give it two thumbs up and five stars! I can't wait for book two!!! P.S. It’s obvious Akira Toriyama (creator of the japenese manga Dragonball Z) was a BIG influence on Mr. Baccaro. Works for me!

Now on to less than favorable points that I have to touch on, much to my chagrin. While the story itself seems to be written for the young adult genre, I found it difficult to distinguish at times for there were some more adult descriptions that after having read the novel I find myself in a bit of a quandary about whether or not I would be willing to let my preteen children read it. There were some scenes that I would prefer for a young adult not to read and some descriptions that would not be suitable for their age; sexual references and battle scenes and the like. The story itself was chock full of misspellings, grammatical and punctuation errors, and errors in tense with one sentence being past tense and the very next present tense which threw me off from time to time and while I am normally of an extremely placid disposition about such things, the errors did pull me out of the story. There was also an ever present blend of older and more proper English and modern slang which confused me and made it difficult to be drawn into the plot.

The writing is simplistic, akin to reading a fairy tale, but nonetheless reasonably well crafted within that genre, although lack of strong plotting might not make the work acceptable to mature readers. However, it should have appeal to young readers. The book has potential to appeal to a wider audience, provided the author is prepared to more fully develop the characters and undertake some drastic pruning to make the work flow faster.

I was pleasantly surprised by this first time author. He was able to create an emotional connection. His lead character is not your typical good guy. He makes mistakes, and he's cocky as anything. I was surprised at how upset I was getting at this character.
