I am so in love with this series and I am glad to say, this might be my favorite in the series so far. Simmons pulled no punches. This time around we follow Natasha and her expanding family. Natasha, Darian, and Xavier now have a baby and have a second one on the way. Things are going well in the city of Chicago until a shifter is found dead. He wasn't just killed, he was brutally skinned, raped, and dropped from 10000 feet in the air. The murders don't stopped there though. The victims are piling up faster than Warren and Matthew can solve it. And worse are that the victims are getting younger. These killers have no conscious. They are impossible to find. But Warren and Matthew and the gang are not going to give up even if the killers are seemingly invincible. I loved this book a lot. It was super dark and gritty. I loved all the action Simmons packed in this book. It was an amazing read although a little tough to read in parts due to some of the viciousness. So please take that into consideration. This is not for the fainthearted. I loved that we got more of Warren and Matthew in this book. We had to be given more of them considering what they were up against. There is a new coven in town lead by a vampire named Marcus. He is strong, very strong. So much so that Darian is not sure he can beat him and his coven. This coven doesn't care who they kill or destroy. They have killed, skinned, and raped men, women, and children. It is getting to be too much for Warren and Matthew and the whole team of S.U.I.T. They are forced to join teams and bring in extra officers to help take down this new coven. These new officers bring a lot to the table and I can't wait to see what is to come of them. The coven feeds off of destruction and they have something very big planned that will ruin more lives than they already have. I loved seeing the gang together again in this book. They team up an outside pride, a small group of lion shifters lead by a man named Adan who happens to have a lot of history with this evil coven. This evil coven is not use to seeing packs, prides, and vampires working together, but it makes no difference to them. Man, you are not going to believe how big this gets. I stayed up until about 5AM reading this book. I was hooked on every word. I had to know what was going to happen next. I had to know how the hell could they take down a group that is untraceable and very, very, very hard to kill. The anticipation was killing me. It was scary watching Darian doubt himself in this book. If he is at a loss, then they are definitely screwed. Darian is very arrogant and he is every right to be. But I loved that we saw other sides to him in this book especially near the end after a pep talk from a special someone (won't tell you). As I said earlier, this is definitely my favorite out of the series so far. Simmons is incredible with a pen and paper (or keys and screen, whichever works for her). This book will scare you and probably give you some nightmares, but it is worth it. The Lion's Den will be one intense read you won't soon forget. I am dying for the next book which is sadly the last book in the series, but I know Simmons has something big up her sleeve if that cliffhanger was any indication. Oh, why must you torture us this way?! Read this book with caution if you are squeamish. Seriously, I am talking about more than loads of blood here people, but still highly recommended!

Kysen To The Rescue This fifth book in the series ends in a Cliffhanger. I think you should be told that a book ends with a Cliffhanger before you purchase it or read it. This book also contains graphic violence and rape scenes. Even though the violent actions are taken by paranormals, the acts are against humans. The paranormals appear human for all intents and purposes, therefore, a Trigger warning should have been given. As much as I enjoyed this book, the fact that it ended in a Cliffhanger was a great disappointment. I wondered when or if Kysen would enter the action. All I will say is that Kysen came to the rescue. That doesn't mean there's a HEA for everyone. There wasn't but you'll have to read the book if you're interested. For once Natasha wasn't a main character in this book. As she increasingly was irritating in each book, I wanted to read a book where she wasn't the main character. I found this book even more fascinating with others in main roles. You have an ancient, vile immoral group of immortals doing despicable things to supernaturals and humans in retribution for a group of lionshifters. Yes, the Alphas of the wolves, leopards, coyotes come to their aid. Darian and his coven also help. Over the top drama, intrigue, violence and cruelty beyond words to human children make for a fast paced read. As interesting as the book was, the cliffhanger ended soured the book for me. After the fourth book, I was undecided if I wanted to continue with the series even though I was left with unanswered questions. Those answers were glossed over in this book and I could have done without them. Had I known this book ended in a Cliffhanger, I would not have read it. It was the best in the series in spite of the graphic, descriptive sex. Because of the cliffhanger and no trigger warning, I wish I could rate it 2.5 stars.

I think this is the most action packed of the 5 I have read so far! This one has a vicious, ancient vampire named Marcus and his coven, including a shifter lover. As we know now from the previous novels, drinking a master’s blood imbues some of his strength into you, enhancing whatever powers you may already have, whether shifter, vampire, or human. It worked to strengthen Natasha’s visions, it worked to strengthen Darian’s will so he could now see sunrise and sunset despite his “younger” age (c I think this is the most action packed of the 5 I have read so far! It worked to strengthen Natasha’s visions, it worked to strengthen Darian’s will so he could now see sunrise and sunset despite his “younger” age (compared to the ancients, younger). Warning: There are horrific crimes in this novel. If you can’t stand watching Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, you will have a hard time with some scenes in this book. It is, unfortunately, true to life with the horrors that monsters force upon others, and some of it was really hard to read. Mutilation, rape, & murder of both adults and children. The book starts off with Natasha’s pregnancy cravings and her asking Xavier and Darian to get her a juicy burger. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that this is baby numero dos! I love how we get to see the every day lives of these characters: from Natasha’s nesting and cravings to how the two vamps spoil her to Christopher, the newest vamp, working in the club and learning about being a vampire, to Warren & Matthew’s daily job. Warren’s shock as Marshall asks if he was the one to turn Matthew was adorable! “No! Wait…you knew about me?!” This one starts off with the crime and it is horrific. A shifter is murdered, flayed, and dumped on the door step of Desires Unleashed. From there, more and more crimes pop up faster and faster, forcing the captain of the S.U.I.T. unit to bring in reinforcements much to the dismay, and then later relief, of Warren. The new coven on the scene is terrifying and terrorizing the citizens of Darian’s territory. Wickedly strong, horrific, evil, and smart, Marcus’s coven and Marcus himself are wreaking havoc. Lives are lost, not just the victims of the murders, but also during the fights: coven, pride, and pack lose members. We have a new shifter pack alliance, and really they are the reason why the coven is here, not that it makes it solely their fight alone. It’s intense! D.N. Simmons kept me up late at night, turning my pages, wanting resolution, cheering them on during the fight, and finally…when it’s finished, there is another problem. And how does the book end? With this: To Be Continued. Oh yeah! … I ended this on a cliffhanger, baby! Love ya! D.N. *jaw drops* GEEEEZ. Okay! I get it! Onto the final book in the series! UNHOLY ALLIANCE

This is the 5th book in the Knights of Darkness Chronicles, a world where shapeshifters and vampires are barely tolerated. Two years have passed since the events in Hostile Territory. Once again the supernaturals must band together when an ancient vampire brings his coven to town, killing innocents in a very gruesome game as they get off watching the reactions of S.U.I.T. at crime scenes. The writing and editing are somewhat better than the prior books, but the lack of interest I had in the story seemed to make the flaws more noticeable. With the earlier books, the story was strong enough to overlook these problems. The story finally starts building momentum in perhaps the last 25-30% of the book, leaving you with a cliff-hanger. Some may find the victims and what they experienced to be difficult, although thankfully those events aren't played out for us. The only sex we see is male on male; not always consensual, and it appears male on male are the only new relationships in the last few books. I read the Kindle version and was surprised to see the text peppered with a question mark in a box [?] replacing parts of a word or sentence. Often you can figure out what is missing, but not always. Since it's an electronic file, perhaps this is something they will clean up for future buyers. At $9.99 for the Kindle version and $16.50 for a trade-size paperback, the price is rather high for the value.

The Lions Den, book 5 in the Knights of the Darkness Chronicles, takes place about two years after the end of Hostile Territory book 4. Relationships have changed and matured over this time and the crimes on the supernatural front have been pretty quiet, that however changes in a big way. I have give a little *SPOILER ALERT* at this point to explain why this book to me got a 3 1/2 flower rating while the others to date have rated much higher. This book has as a large part of the antagonist plot the murder and sexual abuse of children. I have a really hard time with this if the rest of the writing and the story had not been as well done as it was I would have had to rate it even lower. The murder and abuse are never trivialised and the hero/heroine characters are sufficiently horrified however as I said this made the book far less enjoyable to me. I did love the way that past and new relationships have developed and I love to read about the way that our arrogant master vampire takes care of a baby. This book did have funny moments and tender loving moments as well as the sexy steamy moments that we have come to love from the Knights of the Darkness Chronicles series. I received this book in exchange for my honest review.

More action and suspense from the mind of D.N. Simmons. Another top notch thriller. Marcus has followed a Lion pack to Chicago that he is determined on destroying along with Darian and his shifter friends. Many innocent people are killed and this Monster must be stopped! Adan, who is head of the Lion pride, asks for help in destroying the monster Marcus and his coven and a new alliance is formed. Some of the characters we love are killed during the fights. Coven, pride, and packs lose some of their loved ones. On lighter side, Natasha now has a baby and is due to have another. You will laugh out loud at the antics with her, the baby and to bumbling vampire fathers Darian and Xavier. The sex in this book is often violent, but there are also some very loving scenes. Between both males and females and males with males. A lot going on in this D.N, Simmons book and a few new folks introduced. How anyone can give this book less than a five star review is beyond me. The scenes and characters are very vivid and the chemistry between each character is amazing.

This was my favorite out of the entire series, and very action packed. I wish the author had written more on Adan's lion pride and given us another book for this series before she ended it with book six. I would have loved to see the angst that went on moving the pride to Montana with Kysen. How did the lionesses really deal with this? I was not happy with how she dealt with Gabe and Barry's situation either and we're not given much on how all their lives changed in book six. Book 5 in the vampire soap opera. I definitely like how Natasha has been bumped into a supporting character. I like the focus more on the vampires & shape shifters. I will say that I could have done without the descriptiveness of how gruesome this new foe is, but I get it. I just could have done without all of it. But it's a good set up to book 6, the ending of this saga (which is good because I'm starting to get emotionally drained reading a series this long at once). Book 5 in the vampire soap opera.
