Lucas offers a revolutionary understanding of how mankinds brains are pre-wired to learn and the practical steps to take in order to participate fully in the process. Bill Lucas, a leading international expert on life-long learning, shows that while we have learned more about how the brain works in the last decade than we have ever known, only a fraction of this is grasped Lucas offers a revolutionary understanding of how mankinds brains are pre-wired to learn and the practical steps to take in order to participate fully in the process. Bill Lucas, a leading international expert on life-long learning, shows that while we have learned more about how the brain works in the last decade than we have ever known, only a fraction of this is grasped and applied by most people. Power Up Your Mind applies this practical knowledge for the first time and shows you how to learn. Drawing on research from a wide variety of subject areas, from neuroscience to psychology, from motivation theory to accelerated learning, from memory to diet, this book shows how everyone has the capacity to succeed and how most people use only a very small portion of their talents. For learning to be effective, an understanding of how the brain works is essential and unlike most of the recent thinking on the mind, Lucas connects an understanding of the brain with the reality of the workplace and translates what we know about the brain into useful insights for work. Much work-based training is a waste of time and money because the majority of people are neither emotionally ready nor practically inclined to apply their learning to the way they behave. Power Up Your Mind offers a new model of learning-READY, GO, STEADY-which will revolutionize the way you learn and perform.

I think it's an appropriate book for beginners of learning mind. It has included a lot of how happened and why happened, but less in reason to react. Easy to understand due to lots of practical examples and good at summarisation. But I learned a lot of things to be adaptable and what to change. I like "10 Tips to treat your brain" section, but the following listed 8 tips are useful for me; 1.Hydrated 2.Break(brain needs oxygenated blood to work well) 3.Give big picture first 4.Avoid long period to a I think it's an appropriate book for beginners of learning mind. Utterly boring, so draggy. Definitely could not retain the learnings (if there were any) and this is a book about learning. Also, I find it laughable that the book goes considerably on and on about how to get interested in learning. I picked up the book, didn't I ? That means I'm already interested in learning. The book could have been very much shorter, and were all the quotes really necessary??? Utterly boring, so draggy. Some really useful information is to be found in this book. One really needs to ask oneself: Am I switched on to learning or just not switched off to learning. Because there is a big difference. But the book is full of great ways to power up one's mind and is well worth reading. Some really useful information is to be found in this book. Heavily focused on the work envioronment, much blabla. There is also a focus on self testing which learning type somebody is, this is already outdated information. Poorly structured and organized, could be boiled down to 50 pages at most.

It's got some simple practical advice, but I didn't agree with the beginning of the book about eating frequently. Google how fasting affects the brain. The latest sciences proves eating less actually enhances your brain power and focus. It's worked for me.
