3.5 stars A cute read! I enjoyed that a good chunk of the story took place at a circus/carnival and the characters were nice.

A fun and easy read. It was the perfect thing to read at 4:00 AM (yay, insomnia!) :)

3 stars because I totally expected this book to be cheesy and boring. I only had bought it because it was on the clearance shelf. I've read other books from this company, that were not enjoyable because they were very cheesy and boring. Such a pleasant surprise. I kind of want another book about Roland and Angel... 3 stars because I totally expected this book to be cheesy and boring. I only had bought it because it was on the clearance shelf. The book opens with the main character learning everything about her life that she never knew before, all because of a silly argument with her cousins who accused her of hoarding all the attention men in their town gave her. There's no buttering this review any further, to be honest. The book wavered between being slightly entertaining and, unfortunately for the bigger part, slow-paced and rather uneventful. There's no buttering this review any further, to be honest. The book wavered between being slightly entertaining and, unfortunately for the bigger part, slow-paced and rather uneventful. I didn't get to feel that emotional connection with the characters, and I could predict them and what was going to happen to them too easily. I don't mind predictable sometimes, especially if you build up to what is destined to happen, but if there is no build-up, everything just falls flat. The premise is interesting--carnivals and freak shows, but it would have been nice of that could have been incorporated more in the book, along with Roland's family, who happens to be one if the most notorious gangs. That part was even more unsatisfactory because it ended so abruptly. I mean, you don't become a "notorious" gang for giving up when you see that there is a snake man in the carnival and one tough lady who warns you off her property. Overall, it was okay, but so much more could have been done.

It was a light read and a different kind of story...I enjoyed it.

This is a nice inspirational fiction book set during the Great Depression. No great literary work, but an enjoyable read, especially as it was a free Kindle download.
